The University of Borås has decided not to continue offering teacher training at Campus Varberg. The university will continue to provide teacher training in Borås and at the University of Skövde. The courses that started in Varberg will be carried out during the remaining training period. Campus Varberg has offered teacher training through the University of Borås for 15 years. ” We have always had good cooperation and good relations, and it continues like that. From what we experience, it is the university’s ambition to invest in increased research volume and postgraduate education rights that is behind the decision that Borås chooses to concentrate its educations in Borås and Skövde”, says Ulric Björck, head of Campus Varberg and Center for Lifelong Learning in Varberg municipality. He continues, ” The latest decision is about the University of Borås’ long-term ambitions linked to research, but also about external funding at regional and municipal level to institutions of higher education that offer higher education. There is no tradition around this in Halland and Varberg, but we see an increased incentive from other regions to strengthen the presence of colleges and universities through financial compensation and thus create opportunities for local competence and growth .
Since 2003, Campus Varberg has built up and developed good collaborations with neighboring municipalities regarding the practical parts of teacher training, so-called VFU (operational training) and discussions with another university about continuing to offer teacher training have already begun. ” We have long experience of providing teacher training with good results and have good competence, well-developed collaborations and premises and equipment specially adapted for the training. Over the years, we have also built a strong brand linked to teacher training and had many applicants. Based on this, we are a strong actor for teacher training in Western Sweden and our ambition is to continue to be so through new collaborations”, concludes Ulric Björck.
